Editorial Policy

Our Editorial Policy explains how PuttyCostCalc.com aims to research, create, review and update its calculators and written explanations. Our goal is to make wall putty estimates understandable and useful, not to make every surface or product appear identical. Last reviewed: 22 October 2026.

1. Reader-first editorial purpose

We write primarily for homeowners, painters, students and contractors comparing wall putty quantities, coverage and cost in India. Every calculation guide should help a reader understand what to measure, which number to enter, what the result means, and why reality may differ from a mathematical estimate.

Content should answer the main question early, define unfamiliar terms, use short paragraphs, explain units and provide clear next steps. It should not exaggerate savings, use fabricated testimonials or disguise estimates as live market quotations.

2. Sources and evidence

When discussing a product’s recommended coverage, surface preparation, drying instructions, coat thickness or pack sizes, we prefer the current official technical data sheet, product label and manufacturer documentation. Other credible information may supplement those sources when appropriate.

Where manufacturer documents conflict or cover different formulations, we aim to identify the product and the assumptions rather than combine incompatible figures. Third-party websites are supplementary sources, and publication dates, regions and product versions matter.

3. Calculator formula standards

  • Display or explain the relevant formula and conversion units.
  • Make coverage, wastage, prices, coats and bag size adjustable where the tool needs them.
  • Show when area must be net of doors, windows or other excluded surfaces.
  • Round purchased bags upward, while using unrounded quantities for underlying arithmetic.
  • Check invalid inputs, including non-positive area and impossible opening measurements.
  • Distinguish the cost of whole purchased bags from the kilograms estimated to be consumed.

The Calculation Methodology gives more detailed formulas, examples and exceptions. Because the real world is not perfectly linear, the editorial explanation should also say when the model is a simplification.

4. Examples, prices and claims

Sample labour rates and product prices are used to show how arithmetic works, not to represent real-time quotes from a particular dealer. If we report an actual market figure in an article, it should be attributed, geographically relevant and dated where appropriate.

We avoid unsupported claims such as ‘this putty always covers X sq ft’ or ‘the cheapest option is always Y’. The most suitable product depends on the surface, system, application instructions, availability and budget.

5. Independence, advertising and affiliate content

Editorial standards should apply regardless of whether a page receives advertising support. Paid placements, sponsored content and affiliate-linked recommendations, if introduced, must be distinguishable from independent guidance.

We do not treat a product mention, source citation or outbound link as proof of a commercial relationship. See the Advertising and Affiliate Disclosure.

6. Authorship and use of assistance tools

Content may be supported by drafting, editing, calculation or research software. Such tools do not turn an unsupported claim into a verified fact. Formula logic and manufacturer-specific statements should be checked against appropriate source material before readers rely on them.

We do not invent credentials, site inspections, hands-on testing, specialist certifications or interviews. Where our content is only an estimate or general explanation, it should be labelled as such.

7. Maintenance and periodic review

We aim to revisit content when a manufacturer changes instructions, a mathematical issue is reported, a source becomes unavailable, a calculator feature changes or a legal requirement materially affects the page. Not every page has the same update frequency; a dated revision indicates content work, not necessarily fresh testing of every source.

Minor corrections can be made without a separate public announcement. Substantive corrections or changes to calculation assumptions should be explained when practical. See our Corrections Policy.

8. Safety and professional boundaries

We do not present the website as a qualified structural engineer, dampness specialist or professional building inspector. For moisture, unsafe plaster, unusual surfaces and specialist coatings, we encourage on-site advice and compliance with manufacturer safety instructions.

9. Reader feedback and accountability

Readers can report inaccurate formulas, unclear units, outdated citations, broken internal links, accessibility issues or potential conflicts of interest at contact@puttycostcalc.com. Please share the page URL, the specific concern and the best evidence available.
