PuttyCostCalc.com takes reports of possible mistakes seriously because even a small formula, unit-conversion or rounding error can change a material estimate. This Corrections Policy explains how readers can raise concerns and how we aim to evaluate and resolve them. Effective: 22 October 2026.
What qualifies for a correction
Examples include an incorrect calculation, a mislabeled unit, misleading coverage language, wrong bag rounding, broken source references, inaccurate product details, outdated safety guidance, an incorrect external link or a statement that overstates the reliability of an estimate.
We also welcome suggestions about unclear instructions, missing assumptions and accessibility problems. Not every preference or alternative interpretation constitutes a factual error, but it may still suggest a useful clarification.
How to report a problem
Email contact@puttycostcalc.com with the subject Correction Request. A useful report contains:
- The exact page URL or calculator name.
- The sentence, numerical result or feature you believe is incorrect.
- The inputs and units used, if the issue involves a calculation.
- A brief explanation of the expected outcome.
- A reliable source, formula or screenshot where appropriate.
Avoid including sensitive personal data, identity documents or unrelated financial details. A full set of non-sensitive numbers is usually enough to investigate a formula report.
Our review process
We aim to reproduce reported calculation errors using the same input values and to compare the arithmetic with the formula described on our Calculation Methodology page. Product or application questions are evaluated against current, product-specific manufacturer instructions wherever available.
We distinguish between a technical error and a difference caused by using another product, thickness, coverage basis, rounding convention or contractor scope. Where evidence is insufficient, we may request clarification or leave the existing explanation in place while monitoring the issue.
Types of changes
- Minor fixes: spelling, formatting, grammar, minor broken links or wording that does not alter the calculation.
- Clarifications: added units, examples, caveats or explanations when the underlying formula is sound but a reader could misinterpret it.
- Substantive corrections: fixes to a wrong formula, material assumption, statement or source that meaningfully affects the reader’s understanding.
- Updates: changes following new product guidance or revised website functionality where the earlier material may have been accurate when published.
How corrections appear
We may update the page directly and revise its review date. Where a material error affected estimates or conclusions, we aim to make the changed assumption understandable rather than silently presenting the new statement as though nothing changed. The exact form of a correction notice depends on the significance and context.
We do not promise an arbitrary response time or guarantee that every proposed revision will be accepted. Some claims require additional evidence, and some product-specific information is not publicly available.
Corrections versus disagreements
A contractor’s quote may legitimately differ from a simple calculator result because the quote includes preparation, repairs, additional coats, different pack sizes, site difficulties or commercial expenses. Such differences do not automatically make the calculation formula wrong.
We will consider well-supported disagreement, but do not treat an anecdote, advertising claim or a single unverified price as definitive proof that a mathematical result needs correction.
Corrections to privacy and legal information
If a policy misdescribes actual website features, cookies, software providers or relevant rights, please report it. Operational or legal changes may need more than a text update; we will consider the underlying website configuration where possible.
